How Much Does a Wedding DJ Cost in Houston?
Updated: Sep 21
A wedding DJ in Houston typically costs between $1,000 and $3,000, and at AMP Events and Lighting the numbers are public: $1,500, $1,750, or $2,500 for five hours of DJ and MC. This guide covers the four things that actually drive the price, what each package includes, what the add-ons cost, and how to compare quotes so you know what you're really buying.
What Houston couples actually pay
Most full-service wedding DJ companies in Houston price their packages somewhere between $1,000 and $3,000, and hourly setups can run $150 to $300 per hour once you add time. A lot of companies make you fill out a form just to see a number. We'd rather you know exactly what things cost before we ever hop on a call.
The four things that drive the price
Coverage time. Every AMP package is five hours. That time covers your ceremony and reception together, and if you don't need ceremony coverage, those hours simply go to the reception instead. There's no separate charge for reception coverage.
MC responsibilities. A DJ who also MCs is running your introductions, your toasts, your formal dances, and every announcement in between, and keeping the timeline moving while they do it. That's a different job than playing music, and it's priced differently across companies.
Lighting and production. Uplighting, monogram projection, and dance floor lighting change how the room looks in every photo you get back. Some companies bundle it, some sell it à la carte, so compare what's actually included.
Preparation and coordination. This is the quiet one. The magic at 9pm is built in the weeks before, in the questionnaire, the timeline and cues, and the coordination with your planner, venue, photographer, and videographer.
AMP's wedding packages, with real prices
Essential, $1,500. Professional DJ and MC, a wireless microphone for speeches and toasts, your custom playlist and online music planner, and dance floor lighting.
Signature, $1,750. Our most popular package. Everything in Essential plus 12 wireless uplights to transform the room in your colors.
Ultimate, $2,500. Everything in Signature plus an audio guestbook, a custom monogram projection, and 20 wireless uplights total. That's roughly $1,150 in enhancements bundled into the package.
Every package is five hours of DJ and MC with the owner behind the decks. A $200 deposit holds your date, and the balance isn't due until 30 days before the wedding. If you want to see the full inclusions side by side, they're all on our wedding DJ packages page.
Only need someone for the ceremony? Ceremony-only audio coverage is $250, with no reception service.

Add-ons and enhancements
Uplighting (12 fixtures): $300
Custom monogram: $350
Audio guestbook: $350
Dancing on a Cloud: $400
Photobooth: $650 standalone, $550 bundled with a package
Extra hour: $200
Enhancement pricing is flat year-round.

How to compare DJ quotes
Two quotes that look similar on price can be very different in what you get. Before you compare numbers, ask each company the same five questions:
How many hours are included, and what happens if the night runs long?
Is MC service included, and who is actually on the microphone?
What lighting comes with the package, and what costs extra?
How do you prepare, and what do you need from us before the day?
How do you coordinate with our planner, photographer, and videographer?
The answers tell you more than the price does. If a company can't explain how they prepare or how they handle announcements, you're buying music, not an event.
Wedding DJ Cost in Houston FAQs
How much should I budget for a wedding DJ in Houston?
Plan on $1,500 to $2,500 for a professional, owner-operated DJ and MC with five hours of coverage. Use the comparison questions above to check that a lower quote actually includes everything you need.
What's included in AMP's five hours?
DJ and MC service across your ceremony and reception: introductions, toasts, formal dances, open dancing, and every announcement in between, plus the planning questionnaire, timeline building, and vendor coordination before the day.
Do I pay extra for ceremony coverage?
No. The five hours cover your ceremony and reception together, and if you skip the ceremony, that time goes to the reception instead.
When is payment due?
A $200 deposit holds your date, and the remaining balance is due 30 days before your wedding.
Tipping is never expected or built into the price. If you'd like a benchmark anyway, I wrote a short guide on how much to tip your wedding DJ in Houston.
Can I book now and upgrade later?
Yes. Lots of couples book the Essential package to lock in their date, then add uplighting, the photobooth, or an extra hour closer to the wedding. You can add anything you want after the initial booking.
What if I only need a DJ for the ceremony?
Ceremony-only audio coverage is available at $250 for couples who don't need reception service.
